Map the reason to return
Start with the product and customer context. A replenishable product, a seasonal collection and a one-time gift need different follow-up.
- Identify the expected time to use or enjoy the product.
- Separate first-time customers from repeat customers.
- Choose an experience goal before choosing a discount.
Help before you sell again
Useful onboarding can earn the next interaction. Product care, setup, styling or routine advice can be more relevant than an immediate cross-sell.
- Confirm the order and set delivery expectations.
- Send practical guidance when the customer can use it.
- Make support easy to reach from each message.
Build flows with restraint
A welcome, post-purchase and win-back journey can work together, but they should not compete for the same person’s attention.
- Respect consent and subscription preferences.
- Exclude purchasers from messages about completing that same purchase.
- Set frequency rules and test links on mobile.
Measure more than the last click
Review repeat purchase behavior alongside revenue attributed to messages. Attribution can change without the customer’s actual behavior changing.
- Monitor repeat purchase rate and time to second order.
- Watch unsubscribes and support feedback.
- Keep a simple log of campaigns and flow changes.
